Milestone cracked! This Nintendo game for the Switch is mega successful
A new Nintendo game is still on the rise and is selling like hot cakes for the Switch.
The first tests for Super Mario RPG have shown that Nintendo knows exactly what the fans want. With the successful new edition of this SNES classic for the Nintendo Switch , not only old fans but also newcomers get their money’s worth. The international ratings also agree on this, giving the Switch game an average rating of 83 on Metacritic , and we agree with them in our own big test . Super Mario RPG continues to ride the wave of success and recently hit a new milestone for Nintendo.
Switch game breaks Nintendo record
Japanese video game site Famitsu has released the latest charts for hardware and physical software sales in Japan and Super Mario RPG (buy now) is right at the top . Although there have recently been several new game releases in the current top 10, the remake of the SNES classic was able to prevail against most of them.
Super Mario RPG enjoyed the second-largest launch of a Mario RPG ever, with 301,000 physical units sold . The new edition thus set a milestone, as only the SNES original title from 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, has the best start of a Mario role-playing game to date with over 335,000 units sold.
Is Nintendo Switch game dominating the charts?
In the current top 10, Super Mario RPG is not the best-selling game of the week. The remake takes second place, while Konami’s party game Momotaro Dentetsu World: Chikyuu wa Kibou de Mawatteru! takes the top spot with more than 314,000 units sold.
Persona 5 Tactica , another new release, ranks fifth and sixth, recording collective sales of over 42,000 units upon release, with the Switch version selling over 26,000 copies and coming in at number 5, while the PS5 version sold over 15,000 units and ended up in 6th place.
Hogwarts Legacy was also released for the Nintendo Switch last week and the new version of the open-world role-playing game landed in fourth place with over 47,000 units sold.
On the hardware front, the PS5 is the best-selling console, albeit by a significantly smaller margin. It sold over 65,000 units during the week, closely followed by the Nintendo Switch with over 62,000 units sold. The Xbox Series X/S comes in last with 3,126 units sold.
