Heavy crash for Call of Duty The launch of Modern Warfare 3 went so badly
The launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 certainly didn’t exactly go as Activision expected. The player numbers on Steam paint a clear picture.
Last Friday, after a long wait, the first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 finally came onto the market. However, at least the campaign was anything but well received by the fans , and the solo part of the action game also suffered badly in our detailed test from PC Games . The question therefore arises, among other things, whether these negative vibrations would also affect the launch of Modern Warfare 3 . In fact, the latest game in the shooter series experienced a major crash.

The launch of Modern Warfare 3 went so badly
There is currently no information regarding the sales figures and revenue of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 . But the player numbers on Steam alone paint a very clear picture, especially in direct comparison with its predecessor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 .
The latter reached a peak of 238,522 simultaneously active players on its launch day (October 28, 2022) . Over the following weekend the number even climbed to over 263,000. The successor, Modern Warfare 3, on the other hand, “only” had 177,881 players fighting each other on the battlefield at the same time.
It should be noted that this number also includes active players of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 . Accordingly, the actual number of users who were active in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on launch day was probably much lower. In any case, it shows that the shooter series currently seems to be on the decline .
